Our Meads

Mead is the oldest form of fermentation with evidence of its presence having been found in Chinese vessels dating back to 7000bc! But it’s not just the Chinese who have enjoyed Mead – it was also the Vikings, Mayans, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans.

Mead has come a long way since then, and here at Camas Prairie Winery we pride ourselves in creating a luscious and flavorful selection of Mead for you to try.

We start each batch of Mead with the lightest local honey we can find, wild picked and locally sourced berries, and crisp clean Idaho mountain water.  We closely monitor each batch as it goes through the transformation into our award-winning Meads.  Bright berry flavors and the rich velvet undertones of the honey combine to offer you a crisp and delicately sweet Mead that is unlike anything you’ve had before.

Our Meads are best served well chilled – bright and refreshing on their own as a glass shared with friends.  They pair beautifully with chocolate of course, but cheesecake, a fruit torte, wedding cake, drizzled over ice cream, are all divine options.  We also suggest you try them with other savory options like sharp cheeses, mixed nuts, a charcutier board, saucy BBQ ribs or brisket, roasted chicken, or a Szechuan stir fry – the combination is sure to delight your senses.  If you’re feeling adventurous, stop by our winery tasting room and we’ll whip up a signature cocktail with our meads to show you just how versatile they can be!
